Four Pennies, Please

Whenever I go to a store, I sometimes see items that are worth either 99 cents or 49 cents or something like that.  Of course, if I like the item that has a price that is worth 99 cents, I may buy it.  That’s not exactly what I want to talk about today.  I want to talk about a rather unique experience that I had while I was cashing my paycheck at T.J. Maxx this past Friday.

My paycheck was worth $37.99 this past week … and, just minutes after I completed my shift at Bridgeville T.J. Maxx, I went to one of the cashiers … and the person cashed my check for me.  Now, since the check was 37.99, the cashier asked me if I had a penny … and, then, I just asked her to give me four pennies.  She told me that I would be getting 99 cents in coins, but that didn’t bother me too much.  I probably won’t be using the pennies too much, but I may be able to put them to use at some point in the future.

Will I start a penny collection someday?  Probably not.

Tunch And Joseph

If you’re wondering why the title of today’s blog post is “Tunch And Joseph,” let me explain the reason why I called it that.  There’s a radio show called “Tunch And Wolf” … and, in it, they talk about the Pittsburgh Steelers.  It’s a little play on words or something like that.  That’s why I called it “Tunch And Joseph.”

Well, anyway, I’d like to tell you about the celebrity that I met while I was working at Bridgeville T.J. Maxx last Friday.  While I was working near the front of the store that morning, I noticed that Tunch Ilkin, who played with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1980 until 1992, came into the store … and he happened to notice that I was working near the front of T.J. Maxx.  While I was working late that morning, I happened to meet Tunch Ilkin in person … and I was able to talk with him for about five minutes while his mother was returning an item.  My Pittsburgh friends should know who Tunch Ilkin is in one form or another, whether they saw him as a Pittsburgh Steelers player, as a host of his radio show “Tunch And Wolf” or as a spokesperson for Colussy Chevrolet, which is located in South Fayette.

This was an experience that I will never forget.  Tunch Ilkin is by far one of the best people that the Steelers has ever had.  Again, if you were wondering why I called today’s blog post “Tunch And Joseph,” you’ll know why.  It’s about me meeting a celebrity named Tunch Ilkin.

My 888th Blog Post Is About The Number 8

Happy Memorial Day, my friends!  Today, I’m writing my 888th blog post down … and, today, it will be about the number 8.  I will tell you some rather interesting things about the number 8 … and I will try to use the number 8 in the things that I’m talking about here.

The current year is 2018.

One of my favorite routes in the Pittsburgh area is Route 978, which is located in my part of Allegheny County.

For the past few weeks, I was able to watch channel 208 for about 90 minutes on certain evenings.  I needed a way to unwind after going through some tough days.

I started my blog on the eighth month of a year, which would be August.  I started it in August of 2014.  August, of course, is the eighth month of the year.

Depending on my mood, I usually do my best to wind down during the 8:00 hour on certain evenings.  I will watch a program during that hour, if I’m up to it.

Whenever I gave my computer some “vacation time,” I will usually do it for eight days at a time.

My part of National Hill has eight other houses, which are all very unique in many ways.  We actually have nine houses in my part of the neighborhood, but I do like to give praise to the eight other houses, which are located in my part of National Hill.

In the past, I would sometimes work eight hours a week at my local T.J. Maxx store, but, in recent years, I would just work four hours a week at the store.  I really like it.

So, there you have it.  I was able to give you eight interesting facts about the number 8 that I think are interesting to me.  It was the subject of my 888th blog post.

Enjoy your day!

Joseph’s Flashback: Joseph gets star struck at T.J. Maxx!

When I have not been able to see any celebrities from Hollywood during my lifetime, I have been able to see some local celebrities over the years.  I won’t tell you specifically who they are.  Let’s just say that I have seen them at various places in the Pittsburgh area, including Kennywood Park and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.  The celebrities are from various TV and radio stations throughout Pittsburgh.

Now, last Spring, at around this time or so, I actually bumped into a local celebrity while I was working at Bridgeville T.J. Maxx.  I had just finished taking my break at work, when, all of a sudden, I just happened to bump into Christine D’Antonio, who is a reporter for KDKA-TV, which is the CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh.  I told her that I watch her on KDKA regularly.  She is a terrific reporter.

Will I ever get star struck again?  Maybe.  Who knows?

Joseph’s Moment Of Peace: Joseph’s Clothes Hangers

For almost 11 years now, I have been working at Bridgeville T.J. Maxx … and I’m almost always surrounded by clothes hangers.  That’s because I usually work around clothes whenever I’m at T.J. Maxx.  I almost always put clothes hangers on the trash boxes.

That’s also the case in my house as well.  I’m also surrounded by lots of clothes hangers in both my bedroom … and in my “computer room.”  I have a lot of extra clothes hangers in those rooms … and, hopefully, I can put them to use soon.

Joseph is showing off his extra clothes hangers, which are in his “computer room.”

This Sunday, I will talk about Mr. Classy’s trip to Pittsburgh, which occurred on March 14, 2018.

Enjoy your weekend, my friends!

My new “10 years of service” pin

As you know, I have been working at the T.J. Maxx in Bridgeville, PA, as a regular employee for 10 years.  While I was at work yesterday afternoon, I got a pin that says “10 years of service” on it.  I also got a certificate that says that I have been working at T.J. Maxx for 10 years.

I have been working at the T.J. Maxx store in Bridgeville, PA, as a regular employee for 10 years … and, on June 12, 2017, I got this “10 years of service” pin while I was at my workplace.

I have been working at T.J. Maxx for 10 years now!

10 years ago today, I became a regular employee at the T.J. Maxx store in Bridgeville.  When I first started working there, I would work there from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. twice a week.  I would work there on Mondays and Fridays … and I would sometimes work there on certain other days as well.  I worked there on a Saturday back in 2009.  Some years later, I would start working there from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. twice a week … and now, I work there once a week from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  On at least one occasion, I would work there until 2:30 p.m. … and I was able to leave work at 1 p.m. on some occasions.

For the past 10 years, I have been working in my store’s back room … and, for the past 5 1/2 years, they have also allowed me to work out on the sales floor on some occasions.  I really like working there … and I hope that I can work there for at least 10 more years.

Some of those employees have been working there with me since day one … and many other employees are not working there with me anymore, but, of course, we are still friends today.

I have also talked about some of my co-workers in my blog posts as well.  I’d like to show you some of them now.

On May 1, 2017, I bumped into Nicholas Ciesielski, who works at the Railyard Grille and Tap Room. When he was there that evening, he was just another customer.
I bumped into Julie Hock, one of my former co-workers, at Bee’z Bistro and Pub on May 6, 2015.
On November 26, 2016, I bumped into Taylor Uram while I was at the Railyard Tap Room And Grille in Bridgeville. We sometimes work at the T.J. Maxx store in Bridgeville together on certain days.

I would like to thank the people who have had the chance to work with me at my store for the past ten years.  These guys are some of the best co-workers that I have ever had.

Enjoy your day!

I’m getting used to the changes that are being made at my workplace!

Last Friday, I had a semi-chaotic workday at my workplace.  That was because they were making a lot of changes to my workplace.  Earlier this week, I told you that they were putting a HomeGoods store inside of my T.J. Maxx store.  It had actually been a T.J. Maxx store for almost 36 years.  Beginning in just a few days or so, I will be working in what is called a “combo store.”

Now, today, I went to work … and my workday wasn’t as chaotic as it was last Friday.  They are now putting the finishing touches on our new HomeGoods store.  Some of the people who used to work with me at T.J. Maxx will now be working at HomeGoods.  Yes, we’ll all be in the same building, of course.  We’ll just be doing different things, that’s all.

Again, it’s gonna take a while to get used to the changes that they’re making at my workplace, but over time, I’ll be able to get used to them.  After all, I’ve been working at my store for almost 10 years now.  We’ll see what happens, of course.

My semi-chaotic day at work

Over the past several weeks, people have been remodeling my T.J. Maxx store, which is located in Bridgeville.  It has been a T.J. Maxx store for almost 36 years now … and, now, they’re putting a HomeGoods store inside of the T.J. Maxx store.  I’m excited about it … and I’m also nervous about it.  They’re changing almost everything around in the store.  Today, I’d like to tell you about a semi-chaotic day that I recently had at my workplace.

This past Friday, I went to work like I always did … and me and several of the people who work with me in the back room had to work upstairs because some people were fixing things up downstairs.  There were also several new workers there as well.  It was a fairly chaotic morning for me.  I almost didn’t have anything to do upstairs at that time, but luckily, I was able to find something to do just minutes after I went into the back room.  Things did get better as the day went by, though.

I was able to clean some things out on the sales floor on Friday afternoon.  The afternoon was a relaxing one for me, in a way.

So, as you might have guessed here, I had a semi-chaotic day at work this past Friday.  I’m starting to accept the changes that they’re making to the store that I have been working at for nearly 10 years now.  I like it there a lot.
